If you're looking for someone with a diverse background in IT, web development, social media, online marketing and public relations — someone who's as passionate about the latest gadget as he is about a good book — then you're in luck.

Public Relations/Marketing

For the past four years I've been studying Journalism and Public Relations at the University of Oregon. I will have a BS in Journalism and Communications by the end of 2009. I've studied a wide range of communication issues including ethics, social media and new communication technologies.

Since the summer of 2007 I have worked as a member of a small marketing team in the Erb Memorial Union at the University of Oregon. I've done everything from event planning, creative design, web development and everything in between. My primary responsibility has been developing database driven web-applications for University groups and administering our five web-servers. I have also worked very hard to coordinate many of our ongoing projects between our staff and our clients.

Civil War LAN
Since 2006 I have been involved with the emuLAN, a 24 hour gathering of nearly 200 computer and console gamers at the University of Oregon. Originally participating as a student, I knew I wanted to become a larger part of the event and since then have been one of the primary event coordinators.

In 2008 we collaborated with a team at Oregon State University to create the Civil War LAN.

During the promotion of the Civil War LAN I helped craft a social media release (see below) that was picked up by the University's Public and Media Relations department. This resulted in local media coverage by both the Register Guard and KVAL.

We also received some valuable coverage from the popular gaming blog Kotaku (part of Gawker Media). The Kotaku article nabbed more than 2,600 views and 34 comments. It also resulted in 400 additional referrals to the Civil War LAN website in just 24-hours.

2008 Portland Communicators Conference
In 2008 I was lucky enough to volunteer at the Portland Communicators Conference.

Myself and a few other students helped promote the national conference to potential attendees.

During the conference I helped introduce conference speakers and aided the primary event organizers whenever necessary.

Web Development

An expert at XHTML and CSS, I have over two years of experience developing database driven web-applications using PHP, MySQL and Javascript. I have experience with both the jQuery and Prototype Javascript libraries (including jQuery UI and script.aculo.us).

I'm also an accomplished Unix and Linux server admin. I've written automation scripts in both Bash and Python, and have a good deal of experience running FreeBSD servers.

Here are some websites I've worked on over the past few years (some with the help of many other talented people):

UO Outdoor Program - Inventory Management and POS

While working at the EMU Marketing office at the University of Oregon, I helped code a web-based inventory management and point-of-sale system for the Outdoor Program. The system was built on an in-house PHP framework with a MySQL backend. We made extensive use of the Prototype and Scriptaculous Javascript libraries on this project. Most of the admin interface utilizes Ajax browsing and RPC calls to minimize page loads. The bulk of the coding was done by myself and my co-worker Paul Wells (who built the PHP framework).

Photography

I've never been much more than an amateur photographer, but it's something I've always enjoyed. If you're interested, please check out some projects I did for a photojournalism course I took at the University of Oregon.

You can always see some of my latest work up on my Flickr account as well.
